때가 가까움이라

(계1:3) 이 예언의 말씀을 읽는 사람과 듣고 그 안에 기록된 것들을 지키는 사람들은 복이 있습니다. 왜냐하면 때가 가까이 왔기 때문입니다.

이십 세기 전에조차도 때가 가까웠다는 말입니까? 하나님께서는 그리스도의 다시 오심에 대해 정하신 기한이 없는 듯합니다. 그분께서 오늘날까지 아직 다시 오시지 않은 까닭은 그분의 지연(遲延)이 아니라 그분의 관용입니다(벧후3:8~9).

어느 때든지 이 ‘때’는 가까운 것입니다. 그분은 고금의 모든 성도들을 깨워서 그들이 아직 세상에 살아 있을 때 그분의 아들이 오도록 예비하게 하신 것입니다. 현재의 상황, 교회와 세상의 상황을 볼 때 우리는 다시 새롭게 ‘때가 가까이 왔다’고 말하지 않을 수 없습니다.

아! 나는 내가 시므온과 같이 “주님의 그리스도를 보기 전에는 죽지 않으리라는 것을 성령의 지시로 알고 있었다(눅2:26).”라고 할 수 있기를 얼마나 바라는지! 나는 참으로 그분의 얼굴 보기를 갈망합니다.

은혜의 말씀

(행14:3) 그래도 바울과 바나바가 오랫동안 머물면서 주님 안에서 담대하게 말하니, 주님께서 그들의 손을 통하여 표적들과 기이한 일들이 일어나게 하시어, 그분의 은혜의 말씀을 확증해 주셨다.

유대인은 회당에서 구약을 읽을 때, 주님의 은혜의 말씀을 알지 못했습니다. 오히려 그들은 성경을 읽을 때, 하나님의 율법만을 알 수 있을 뿐이었습니다. 즉 하나님의 경륜에 있어서, 신약시대 이전의 신성한 안배인 옛 시대에 속한 말씀을 알 뿐이었습니다.

그러나 주님의 은혜의 말씀은 율법을 대치합니다. 회당에서 유대인의 생각은 율법에 점유되어 있었습니다. 그러나 바울은 그들에게 그리스도를 은혜로서 전파했습니다.

창세기 3장 15절을 고려해봅시다. “ 내가 너를 여자와 원수가 되게 하고 너의 씨도 여자의 씨와 원수가 되게 하리니 여자의 씨는 너의 머리를 상하게 하고 너는 그의 발꿈치를 상하게 하리라.” 여기서 여자의 씨가 뱀의 머리를 상하게 할 것이라고 말합니다. 이것이 주님의 은혜의 말씀이 아닙니까?

분명히 그렇습니다. 아담과 하와가 선과 악의 지식나무 열매를 먹은 후 그들은 하나님으로부터 숨으려고 했습니다. 주님의 목소리가 아담에게 들려왔습니다.

“ 네가 어디 있느냐? ” (창 3:9) 아담과 하와는 놀랐습니다. 왜냐하면 아마 하나님께서 그들에게 죽음을 선고할 것이라 생각했기 때문이었을 것입니다.

그러나 주님은 유죄 판결이나 심판의 말씀을 하시지 않고, 대신 은혜의 말씀을 하셨습니다. 아담과 하와는 창세기 3장 15절의 주님의 말씀을 들었을 때, 틀림없이 매우 기뻤을 것입니다. 그들은 뱀을 미워했을 것이고, 이제 주님은 여자의 씨가 뱀의 머리를 상하게 할 것이라고 그들에게 말씀하셨습니다.

The Word of Grace

Acts14:3 Therefore they spent a considerable amount of time speaking with boldness in the Lord, who testified to the word of His grace by granting signs and wonders to be done through their hands.

In the synagogues the Jewish people did not read the Old Testament in order to know the word of the Lord's grace. Rather, they read the Scriptures in order to know the word of God's law, a word belonging to the old dispensation, to the former divine arrangement of God's economy. But the word of the Lord's grace replaces the law.

The minds of the Jewish people in the synagogues were occupied with the law. But Paul preached Christ as grace to them. Consider Genesis 3:15: "I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." Here we see that the seed of the woman will bruise the serpent's head.

Is this not a word of the Lord's grace? Certainly it is. After Adam and Eve had eaten of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they tried to hide from God.

The voice of the Lord sounded out to Adam and said, "Where art thou?" (Gen. 3:9). Adam and Eve were frightened, perhaps thinking that God would sentence them to death.

But instead of speaking a word of condemnation or judgment, the Lord spoke a word of grace. In Genesis 3:15 He condemned the serpent and gave Adam and Eve a word of grace. Adam and Eve must have been very happy when they heard the Lord's word in Genesis 3:15.

They must have hated the serpent, and now the Lord was telling them that the seed of the woman would bruise the head of the serpent. This surely is a word of grace.
